LEEDCo, the start-up company that aims to erect six American-made wind turbines in Lake Erie by 2017, is hoping to hear from consumers about their support of such a project.
LEEDCo is funded by a $4 million U.S. Department of Energy grant, and is preparing to compete for a second grant of a significantly larger size - $46 million - to complete the project. LEEDCo is currently the only freshwater offshore wind turbine project that the DOE has funded to date.
The turbine project will create approximately 500 temporary jobs, but could lead to bigger and better things. This project is merely the first step towards building hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of wind turbines in Lake Erie.
